Monarch Butterfly Conservation Fund
The U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) intends to issue a Single Source Grant Agreement Award without competition to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (Foundation) for efforts to cooperatively conserve Monarch butterflies and their habitat.
This is an amendment to Grant #F15AP00245 issued from Funding Opportunity #F15AS0015 7. This amendment will be adding additional funding for additional projects being administered by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
Funding is being provided to ensure the recovery of monarch butterflies and the habitats on which they depend.
The Service is supporting monarch habitat restoration on National Wildlife Refuges, the development of conservation plans across the range, community and youth engagement, and private landowner habitat restoration.
The Monarch Fund is an effort by the Service to help focus and maximize the conservation and restoration activities taking place on private lands.
The Monarch Fund also is an instrument for the Service to use to engage other federal agencies and private companies and foundations in the recovery of monarch butterfly populations.
The purpose of the funding is to leverage public and private funds to accelerate efforts to stabilize and restore monarch butterfly populations.
Since the mid-1990â¿¿s there has been a loss of approximately 165 million acres of habitat and a more than 50% decline in the population of monarch butterflies.
The goal of the Monarch Fund is to support the federal commitment to add 10 million acres of habitat in the continental U. S. and increase monarch populations to 300 million.
This program builds on the existing efforts of the Service, the Natural Resources Conservation Service, The Monarch Joint Venture, and other entities, as well as guidance from the North American Monarch Conservation Plan.
