Low Income Taxpayer Clinic

An LITC is an organization that receives amatching grant from the Internal RevenueService (IRS) to assist low income individualswho have a tax dispute with the IRS, or toprovide education and outreach to individualswho speak English as a second language (ESL).Most LITCs can provide representation beforethe


IRS or in court on audits, tax collectiondisputes, and other issues.

Some clinicsprovide information and education abouttaxpayer rights to individuals for whom Englishis a second language.

Services are provided forfree or for a small fee.LITCs are not part of the IRS but they receivepartial funding from the IRS via the LITCgrant program, which is administered by theTaxpayer Advocate Service.
