FY 2011 SNAP Participation Grants

The Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 authorized the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) toaward$5 million dollars in grants to State agencies*; public health or educational entities; or private nonprofit entities such as community-based or faith-based organizations, food banks, orother emergency feeding organizations,


for projects aimed at simplifying the SupplementalNutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) application and eligibility determination systems orimproving access to SNAP benefits by eligible households.The purpose of this grant competition is to support efforts by State agencies and theircommunity-based and faith-based partners to develop and implement simple SNAP application and eligibility determination systems; or measures to improve access to SNAP benefits by eligible applicants.

Additional Information of Eligibility:
This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is open only to Ethnic Community-Based Organizations (ECBOs).

An ECBO is a non-profit organization that was founded and is led by a current or former refugee, or a group of current and former refugees and immigrants, primarily for the advancement of refugees.

For the purposes of this FOA, the Office of Refugee Resettlement considers an ECBO as a non-profit organization whose board of directors is comprised of at least 60 percent current and/or former refugees.

Faith-based and community organizations that meet the eligibility requirements are eligible to receive awards under this funding opportunity announcement.

Faith-based organizations are encouraged to review the ACF Policy on Grants to Faith-Based Organizations at: http: //www.acf.hhs.gov/acf-policy-on-grants-to-faith-based-organizations.

Applications from individuals (including sole proprietorships) and foreign entities are not eligible and will be disqualified from competitive review and from funding under this announcement.
