Dozens of streets have been repaved, with street work using asphalt mix that included 2,600 recycled tires. With proper maintenance, the newly paved streets have a life expectancy of 15 years. The state funding came from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality's Scrap Tire Market Development program.
