While the federal government does not provide grants for starting or growing small businesses, one of the mechanisms in place to promote small business growth and economic development is the Community Development Financial Institution Fund managed by the US Department of the Treasury.

Community Development Financial Institutions fall into four categories:

  • Community Development Loan Funds
  • Community Development Credit Unions
  • Community Development Banks - Including Thrifts and Holding Companies
  • Community Development Venture Capital Funds

The goal of the National Digital Newspaper Program is to crate a national digital resource of historically significant newspapers published between the years 1836 and 1922, from all of the States and its territories.





Small Business Administration's Loan Guarantees Program

The Small Business Administration has established the Loan Guarantees Program wherein they aim to be able to provide guaranteed loans to small business establishments which are not capable of acquiring financing from a private credit marketplace but greatly manifests the ability to repay funds in a timely manner.

3 Social Enterprises Earn Honors at Social Enterprise Award


Three social enterprises were recognized at the 2013 President’s Challenge Social Enterprise Award for their major contributions to society. SATA CommHealth and Bliss Restaurant landed Social Enterprise of the Year titles, while Bettr Barista Coffee Academy bagged the award for Social Enterprise Start-up of the Year.
