Page 2In most cases, the projects that will be funded under the Urban Waters Small Grants Program should also encourage and promote a thorough comprehension of local water quality issues, identifying support activities that would potentially address these issues, and educating and enabling communities whose dwelling are surrounding urban water bodies.
In an effort to help prospective grant applicants, the EPA has outlined the specific goals of the program, which includes:
a) Addressing water quality concerns in certain communities, such as those comprising minority, low income, or indigenous populations, that have been significant affected by severely polluted urban waters;
b) Encouraging these communities to participate in the planning and implementation of the project including the design, techniques, strategies, and approaches that would could contribute to the successful restoration of water quality.
For this project, the EPA has allocated a budget in the amount of $3,800,000. The individual award amounts are all depending upon the quality and extent of the activities that are included in the project proposal.
The institutions and organizations that will be deemed eligible to take part in the Urban Waters Small Grants Program are the following:
a) States, local, and city or township governments
b) Indian Tribes
c) Territories and possessions of the United States of America including the District of Columbia
d) public and private universities and colleges
e) public or private nonprofit institutions
f) inter-Tribal consortia
g) Interstate agencies.
