Battlefield Preservation Planning Grants

Program Background Information and Objectives:
The American Battlefield Protection Program supports the identification, research, evaluation, interpretation, and protection of historic battlefields and associated sites on a national, state, and local level.

Under this Funding Opportunity, grant


funds are awarded to state, local, and tribal governments, other public entities, educational institutions, and nonprofit organizations.

Projects must relate to planning, interpreting, and protecting sites where historic battles were fought on American soil during the armed conflicts that shaped the growth and development of the United States, in order that present and future generations may learn and gain inspiration from the ground where Americans made their ultimate sacrifice.

Secretary of the Interior Priorities:
This program supports the following Secretary of the Interior Priorities:
Foster relationships with conservation organizations advocating for balanced stewardship and use of public lands.

Expand the lines of communication with Governors, state natural resources offices, Fish and Wildlife offices, water authorities, county commissioners, Tribes, and local communities.

The program supports the priorities listed above by providing financial and technical assistance to conservation or preservation organizations as well as state, local, and tribal governments for projects and partnerships related to local and regional community needs and interests.

Grant funds support battlefield planning, interpretation, and protection projects.
