Supporting a Professionalized Press Corps in Cabo Verde

The U. S. Embassy Praia of the U. S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out a program to support the growth of a professionalized press corps in Cabo Verde.

This program


seeks to award a cooperative agreement for up to $80,000 to host four quarterly conferences bringing the Cabo Verdean press corps together to gain knowledge and tools to better combat fake news, discuss the principles of investigative journalism, and how to ethically and responsibly report on fake news in the Cabo Verdean context amongst other topics.

As part of the cooperative agreement, U. S. Embassy Praia will provide additional speakers for these conferences either virtually or in person.In addition to hosting these conferences, the grantee is expected to work with the Public Diplomacy Section (PDS) at U. S. Embassy Praia to identify press outlets who need equipment upgrades, purchase the equipment and provide the equipment to the specified press outlets.

Applicants should budget for equipment purchases for five to ten press outlets, for conference space rental and conference services including coffee/tea service and lunch during each conference, honoraria and travel costs for local speakers and any technical support including costs for WIFI.
