Reconciling the Past: The Power of Art to Heal

Project Goal:
Indian community leaders and art communicators will have a better understanding of how museums and other cultural institutions in the United States play a pivotal role in shaping the U. S. national identity and address issues inclusive of social conflict, inclusion, and cohesion, and

they will collectively learn, reflect, and reconcile historically controversial social issues and conflicts.

Program Objectives:
· By June 2024, at least 10,000 Indian audiences who visit the exhibits showcased at American Spaces across India will have a better understanding of how the United States defines the American experience including its struggle with issues of social identity and inclusion and will apply this learning in the Indian context to come to terms with the complexities of their pasts.

This would be evidenced by response to polls and surveys conducted among visitors to the exhibit.

· Through projects organized in connection with the exhibit, by June 2024, at least 50 Indian art communicators will have the opportunity to share their experiences with telling India’s story regarding social identity and inclusion and connect with American art communicators to exchange best practices.

This would be evidenced by responses to post event surveys and reports.
