Funds under this award are to be used in the implementation of the refuge in the White Slough Restoration Project.
Humboldt County RCD will manage the excavation, pick-up, delivery and distribution of clean fill to/at the WSU.
The White Slough Restoration Project will reduce invasive
Spartina densiflora and create native salt marsh by burying the Spartina while at the same time raising the elevation of subsided wetlands to elevations that will be re-vegetate with native marsh and be more resilient to sea level rise.
Humboldt County RCD will work with 3rd parties to acquire clean soil for and delivery to the WSU site for this restoration, provide for sampling of potential fill materials for contaminants, and/or provide other permitting assistance for the project.
