Geriatric Education Centers

Section 753(a) of the Public Health Service Act, as amended, authorizes the Secretary of the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services to award grants for the establishment or operation of geriatric education centers.

Grants are awarded to support the development of collaborative arrangements


involving health professions schools and health care facilities.

These collaborative arrangements are called Geriatric Education Centers (GECs) and provide training of health professionsl students, faculty, and practitioners in the diagnosis, treatment, prevention of disease, disability, and other health problems of the elderly.

Projects supported under these grants must offer interprofessional education involving four or more health professions, one of which must be allopathic or osteopathic medicine.

Please note:
Allopathic and Osteopathic Medicine count as one profession.
