Planning, Educational, and Recreational Initiatives at SEF

This announcement is to provide public notice of the National Park Service’s intention to award financial assistance for the following project activities.

The scope of work for this task agreement award under under Master Cooperative


Agreement P16AC01430 encompasses numerous individual projects part of three broad initiatives, including:
(1) supporting Sultana Education Foundation’s Education Center as a visitor contact point for Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail (Chesapeake National Historic Trail), (2) developing curriculum and programs for K-12 students related to Chesapeake Bay and Chesapeake National Historic Trail, and (3) developing Chesapeake Bay and Chesapeake National Historic Trail-related public programs.

Specific objectives will include:• planning and new access for SEF's new Urban Wetlands Preserve;• visitor contact center interpretive exhibit materials (serves approximately 5,000 visitors per year); • K-12 curriculum and curriculum-based programs in classrooms and in the field (serves approximately 3,000 students per year);• teacher and environmental educator training (serves 64 educators);• on-water public programs (serves 200 visitors per year);• a staff position dedicated to Sultana Education Foundation's overall Chesapeake National Historic Trail effort, principally program support including expanding paddling programs; and• field program-related equipment needs—paddling and safety equipment (serves 50 students per year).
