Understanding and Addressing Vaccine Confidence and Hesitancy to Foster Informed Vaccine Decision Making

NVPO provides strategic direction for the coordination of the vaccine and immunization enterprise through the National Vaccine Plan (NVP) implementation.

In part, NVPO works to support the multiple Federal and partner agencies that foster collaboration and facilitate accurate, transparent, and

audience-appropriate communication strategies about vaccines and vaccination.

Thoughtful communications and education about the safety, efficacy, the value of vaccines to individual and population health, and the importance of timely adherence to the recommended immunization schedules, is imperative in helping people make informed decisions about immunization for themselves and their families.

Recently, the National Vaccine Advisory Committee (NVAC), which provides advice and recommendations to the Assistant Secretary for Health, identified vaccine confidence as an essential precursor to vaccine acceptance and high immunization coverage.

Overall, there is much good news in the U. S. when it comes to recommended vaccines and vaccinations.

Vaccination rates among children are high and the vast majority of parents are following the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommended schedule.

Healthcare providers are highly supportive of vaccines and immunization recommendations and are a trusted source of information and guidance for most parents.
