With this solicitation, BJA seeks to fund applications to the FY 2024 Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement Grants Program – Competitive (Coverdell Competitive Program) to improve forensic science and medical examiner/coroner services, including services provided by laboratories operated by states and units of local government.

This program furthers the DOJ’s mission to uphold the rule of law, to keep our country safe, and to protect civil rights.

Agencies with a different legal status (e.g., nonprofit or for-profit mental health agencies) are eligible to apply only if they meet the following two requirements: (1) the applicant is designated by the state mental health authority to provide services as a unit of the state or local government and (2) the applicant must attach documentation to support this designation.
