Broadening Participation through Civil Society (BPCS)

The U. S. Agency for International Development in Iraq (USAID/Iraq)is seeking applications for a civil society project that will bolster Iraq’s transition to a sustainable, participatory democracy by strengthening the civil society sector.

The project will pursue the overarching objective of


increasing citizen input into Iraq’s development through the following components:
1) increased democratic engagement of citizens; 2) increased institutional capacity of civil society organizations (CSOs); 3) increased impact of civil society on public policy; and 4) improved enabling environment for civil society.

Through a fifth Special Projects component, the project to manage the Marla Ruzicka Iraqi War Victims Fund.

A Gilesgate-based shop and community facility, Hexham’s Core Music, launches a separate workshop where up to six people will be trained how to repair guitars and make ukuleles. The European Social Fund grant supported the project and has secured funds through the County Durham Communication Foundation to equip the workshop in Burn Lane.
