The purpose of this program is to provide training, recruit, and prepare students for obtaining advanced degrees in the behavioral health field to address mental and substance use disorders.

The recipient will be expected to emphasize education, awareness, and preparation for careers in mental


and substance use disorder treatment.

With this program, SAMHSA aims to increase the number of students prepared to enter the behavioral health field and provide culturally competent services; increase student awareness of careers in behavioral health; assist students with continuing their education in behavioral health; and establish partnerships among HBCUs and other organizations to share resources and strategies to strengthen their capacity to recruit and train students for careers in substance use, mental and co-occurring disorder treatment.
