REQUEST FOR INFORMATION SYNOPSIS FOR THE FLAGSHIP TECHNOLOGY DEMONSTRATIONS

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is seeking information through this Request for Information (RFI) to identify, improve and/or enhance approaches that will demonstrate the targeted technologies described in this RFI.

NASA has defined six (6) targeted technologies that are

to be demonstrated via spaceflight in support of the Flagship Technology Demonstration (FTD) effort.

Towards this end, four (4) Point of Departure (POD) missions have been identified.

While emphasis in the responses should address the existing POD missions, alternate approaches may be suggested in order to more efficiently demonstrate the selected technologies.

For purposes of this RFI, all responders should consider the set of technologies fixed, and provide input on the appropriate missions to demonstrate those technologies.

This RFI is open to responses from all commercial entities, international organizations, academia, NASA Centers and other government agencies.

Sections 3-8 of this RFI seek input on how to perform a specific mission in a more optimum manner (cost effective and efficient).

Section 9 seeks input on how to put the missions together in a different manner to obtain a better (e.g.

more efficient and cost effective) demonstration of the capability.

NASA RFI # NNH10ZTT003L, entitled "Flagship Technology Demonstrations," will be available electronically on or about May 17, 2010, by opening the NASA Research Opportunities homepage at http://nspires.nasaprs.com/ and then linking through the menu listings "Solicitations" to "Open Solicitations".

Responses to the RFI must be submitted electronically via NASA?s proposal data system, NASA Solicitation and Proposal Integrated Review and Evaluation System (NSPIRES) (http://nspires.nasaprs.com ).

All responses are due on June 11, 201 0. Each electronic application places requirements on the registration of responders and other participants (e.g.

co-investigators).

Potential responders are urged to access NSPIRES in advance of the due date to familiarize themselves with its structure and enter the requested information.

Questions concerning responding to this RFI may be addressed to the contacts referenced in the RFI.
