The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad (CVSR) is the park’s Alternative Transportation System, providing visitors with a unique way to travel to, through and within the park.
This service reduces the number of visitors on the roads and in parking lots.
CVSR also provides a service called
“Bike Aboard!” which allows visitors to have a multi-modal park experience by riding their bicycle one way through the park on the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail and returning to their vehicle by putting their bike on the train and riding the train back to their vehicle.
There is also educational programming that occurs on the train so that visitors can learn about the park and the transportation history of the Cuyahoga Valley region since rail service began on this Cuyahoga Valley Line in 188 0. The goal of this agreement is to provide for educational, recreational, and heritage railroad experience programs and opportunities, as well as for the provision of multi-modal, alternative transpiration system to, through, and within Cuyahoga Valley National Park and the Ohio and Erie Canalway.
The public purpose of this agreement is to raise awareness of transportation history within the Cuyahoga Valley, which began in 1880, by allowing visitors to experience to Valley in unique ways over a century after the railroad began transporting people and goods.
