GLNF CESU: Isle Royale Institute Support FY2020-2024-ISRO

This announcement is to provide public notice of the NPS's intentions to award financial assistance for the following project activities without competition to Michigan Technological University a member of the Great Lakes Northern Forest Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit.

Isle Royale National


Park (ISRO) will work in partnership with recipient to provide education and accomplish scientific research in the park and the surrounding waters of Lake Superior.

Coordinate and provide outreach education programs for all ages and citizen science.

Projects are to fulfill the mission of the Isle Royal Institute on outreach education (including life-long learning) and research support services.

The projects proposed are as follows:
establish base camps for family, youth and tribal groups and development of a wildlands experiential education program; coordinate and offer continuing education programs for teachers such as Moosewatch for Educators and other teacher professional development; document coastal archeological sites; provide scientific research support; continue and develop citizen science inventory and monitoring programs.

Outreach education/tribal youth programs reach 10-20 youth and families with each program.

Programs offered will be estimated four times per summer and reach up to 80 youth each year.
