Mount Rainier, Olympic, and North Cascades National Parks are interested in working with a partner to establish a program dedicated to recruitment, training, and the leading of volunteers in completing trail maintenance projects.
Providing the public an opportunity to give service to the backcountry
locations in these three parks in a structured program is the purpose of this program.
Using relevant tools for recruitment, providing basic training, and providing leadership for the trail volunteers will be enhanced by an organization with preservation and rehabilitation experience in trail maintenance and a background promoting access and backcountry use in its mission.
The public benefit of this project has two components.
The first is the establishment of the volunteer program that assists in and makes it easy for the public to engage in the three parks.
The training of volunteers with the purpose of enhancing their understanding of trail work, national parks, and conservation service as a whole as they promote share stewardship and attachment to the park in completing the work on the trail.
The second public purpose is that the completion of this work keeps more trails accessible to the visiting backpacker and day hiker.
