Exotic Vegetation Contraol and Desert Springs Habitat Restoration, Death Valley NP

Project Goals â¿¿ Removal of exotic vegetation at desert springs will improve the condition of many highly visible and ecologically important riparian resources in Death Valley.

The project work will benefit the natural ecology of desert spring environments by promoting


the establishment and growth of native vegetation, enhancing wildlife habitats, and improving and enhancing visitor enjoyment of these resources and for the future generations.

B.

Project Objectives â¿¿ The primary objective of this Task Agreement project is to provide youth and young adults conservation corps crews with the opportunity to assist Resources Management and Death Valley NP in the restoration of riparian ecosystems by removing and controlling exotic and non-native vegetation that occur in and near these habitats.

Foreign institutions are not eligible to apply.

Applicants must choose Canadian institutions and mentors selected by CIHR-IA.

These institutions and mentors can be located through the CIHR Funding Database, which can be accessed at: http://www.cihr-irsc.gc.ca/e/826.html .By the time of award, candidates for the postdoctoral fellowship award must be citizens or non-citizen nationals of the United States, or must have been lawfully admitted to the United States for Permanent Residence (i.e., possess a currently valid Alien Registration Receipt Card I-551, or other legal verification of such status).

Non-citizen nationals are generally persons born in outlying possessions of the United States (i.e., American Samoa and Swains Island).

Individuals on temporary or student visas are not eligible.

Individuals may apply for the F32 in advance of admission to the United States as a Permanent Resident recognizing that no award will be made until legal verification of Permanent Resident status is provided.

Additionally, candidates must be eligible to travel to and reside in Canada and must obtain the requisite visa from the Government of Canada.
