The Food and Nutrition Act of 2008, as amended through Public Law 115-334, authorizes the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR) and provides for the provision of funds to State Agencies and Indian Tribal Organizations (ITOs)

Since 2008, annual appropriations acts have provided funding for nutrition education services to State Agencies and ITOs participating in FDPIR.

The need for FDPNE is determined annually by Congress.

The "Further Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2020" (Public Law 116-94) specifically funds FDPNE in FY2 0.

Additional Information of Eligibility:
Indian Tribal Organizations (ITOs) and State Agencies (SA) that administer FDPIR may apply individually and/or as a consortium (e.g., as a region or a regional nutrition advisory council).

A current FDPIR allowance holder (i.e., an entity that has a direct agreement with FNS to administer FDPIR) must submit the application.

If one or more ITOs wish to apply as a consortium, one ITO must be designated as the lead agency and apply on behalf of the other ITOs.

The lead agency is responsible, fiscally and operationally, for the overall administration of the project.

A Gilesgate-based shop and community facility, Hexham’s Core Music, launches a separate workshop where up to six people will be trained how to repair guitars and make ukuleles. The European Social Fund grant supported the project and has secured funds through the County Durham Communication Foundation to equip the workshop in Burn Lane.
