Urban Research Park CDE, LLC (URP) will fund the development of industrial parks in rural areas and research parks in urban areas. These “Activity Centers” will be located near a center of knowledge or excellence, and will attract similar purpose organizations that can directly benefit from their proximity to one another through the transfer of knowledge, sharing of common facilities and by lowering their overall cost of production. The URP will provide equity investments and deeply discounted subordinated debt products to leverage additional financing into these projects. It will also provide grants to local nonprofits to undertake programs designed to meet the needs of the low-income communities.

NMTC (2009) - $30,000,000

Urban Research Park CDE, LLC (URP) provides flexible financial products to catalytic educational, medical, industrial and technical research center real estate projects in highly distressed low-income communities throughout the nation. URP also provides financial support to local non-profit partners to ensure that the benefits of the real estate investments flow to low-income community residents through job-training programs, job placement programs, business capacity building programs, and other direct support programs. URP provides equity, equity-equivalent loans and convertible debt with a wide range of flexible features, including below-market interest rates.



NMTC (2007) - $60,000,000

NMTC (2006) - $50,000,000

Urban Research Park CDE (URP) will develop research parks in distressed communities near Centers of Knowledge (universities, colleges, hospitals, medical schools, and research parks). The research parks focus on the development of cutting edge technologies, new business accelerators and company incubators in the fields of biotechnology, nanotechnology, molecular research and information technology. NMTCs will allow URP to provide debt and equity products with flexible, below market terms that benefit the research park’s tenants, the project itself, and the surrounding community. The URP will also provide grants to local non-profits who will be responsible for undertaking programs designed to meet the needs of that particular community while maximizing the catalytic effects of the research park.
